The Science of Arabic Grammar (النَحْو)

The Science of Arabic grammar (النَحْو) is the study of how to join words to form correct and meaningful sentences. The focus of this course is grammatical theory, allowing one to appreciate the depth of the Arabic language through the works of classical grammarians for over a millennium. Course Modules:

Module 1: An Introduction to the Science of Arabic Grammar

The structure of the Arabic language, difference between meaningful and meaningless speech, introduction to the 3 parts of speech: Noun, verb, and particle. The signs of the parts of speech. The sub-divisions of the 3 parts of speech.

Module 2: Compound Structures and Sentences

Definite and indefinite nouns, introduction to the phrase and sentence, 2 types of division of a sentence: Introduction to the subject and predicate, verb and doer, Musnad and musnad ilahyi, introduction to grammatical states, declension of words and non declension.

Module 3: Singular Nouns and the Nominal Sentence

The singular nouns, essential and non essential parts of a Nominal and verbal sentence. The structure and grammatical discussions on the nominal sentence. Femininity of words and their signs. New vocabulary (nouns denoting an entity and nouns denoting an attribute) and constructing nominal sentences.

Module 4: Adjectives and the Possessor & Possessed

The Phrase, The adjective and the described, the possessed and possessor. Using vocabulary words to construct a Phrase.
